Our New York Pied à Terre

It's been a few months since I moved, and in that time I've been back and forth between New York and Seattle at least once each month. Each visit to New York, I'm whittling away the progress, painting the shelves (not yet ready for their closeup) and purchasing little elements here and there. I think I can finally say, that we're starting to make some solid progress in both homes. Though the house is still missing a few major elements, in New York I feel like we're almost there.

Before we moved I wrote a post on Fourth Floor Walk Up about how I was planning to decorate the apartment to evoke a Parisian Pied à terre. Inspired mostly by the minimalist, unfussy decor of spaces that bring relax and ease to their visitors, I wanted to create a similar mood in my apartment. It's super minimal in regards to any spaces that I've lived in, the palette is also minimal, yet feels very New York in manner. With a foundation of light grays and off-whites, hints of muted greens, and accents of black, gold and leopard. In my opinion, it the perfect signature style of any New York gal, right?

We brought a neoclassical style demilune table into the entry, I always try to have a fresh flower arrangement there every time I'm in town. | Photograph by: Lauren L Caron © 2016

The porter chair stayed behind. It's kind of perfect there. With the sofa moved forward I can fit a smaller rug, this one we bought last year but didn't have a place for it at the time. Sometimes it pays off to be a hoarder...  | Phot…

I leave the lamp here on the table because most often it's just me at the apartment. I use this table as a place to work because having my back to the window with the sun shining on it is the best feeling. | Photograph by: Lauren L Caron © 2016

The bedroom is the most obvious example of how I don't really have many accessories, since this photo was taken, I added a bust of Diana and some books to the round table, because bare surfaces drive me a little crazy. | Photograph by: Lau…
