Spring 2021 - One Room Challenge Week 1

Once again we’re embarking on another One Room Challenge. I have reservations about our ability to finish this time around, yet as always I’m excited to be participating. Week 1 kicks off with the design concept and before photos.

Our Favorite Timeless Sofas

Sofas are anchor pieces. For many of us, they’re the first pieces of furniture we ever purchase, be it for dorm rooms or studio apartments. They help to create both spaces for socializing and at times, spaces for solitude. This week I’m sharing the timeless sofa shapes that I come back to in my work again and again.

Flowers + Plants for the Home: A Stylist's Guide

I’m kicking off a new series here called Flowers + Plants for the Home, a Stylist’s guide. In my years in visual merchandising, styling and interior design, I have relied heavily on plants and flowers to make spaces feel interesting, beautiful and complete. For the first post in this series, I’m keeping it local with my favorite places to buy flowers in Seattle.

My Favorite Paint Colors: Go-To Grays

For the start of a new series about all my favorite paint colors I am talking about gray paint colors, from light to dark, warm to cool and everything in between.

First Things First

The very first step we needed to take in updating and remodeling our home was to refinish the floors and skim coat the walls. See the before pictures of what we started with and how much of a difference a little refinishing can do!

Our Seattle Craftsman

Welcome to the new series on the blog dedicated to our 1916 Seattle Craftsman where I will document the remodel and decorating process of our new house in Seattle, WA.

Our Eclectically French Influenced Dining Room

A touch of modern, leaning towards traditional with a lot of French influence. I wanted our dining room to be the eclectic and slightly strange mix some of my favorite eras in design, while still incorporating some of my existing collection of antiques and vintage artwork.

The Difference a Year Makes: Living Room Reveal!

After a little over a year, (in fact we just resigned our lease) I am revealing the almost finished living room! Along with before and after photos of the space to see what we started with.

Incorporating the Principles of Visual Design into Interiors

The basic principles of visual design are balance, proportion, rhythm, emphasis, and unity. Much like 2D visual art and design, quality interior design follows the same principles. I've compiled some of my favorite rooms as examples to show how each principle is represented in this field of design.

Cream + White Rooms, Designing Serene Spaces

As with all design, we want to create spaces that are interesting with a sense of depth to them. White and cream rooms can be very flat, however if focus is set on the subtle details, you can create a space that is both soothing and serene.
